COVID-19 has changed the world altogether. We think and perform differently since it has hit us. Many of us lost their lives to it and many more are fighting it, but most of us has recovered. Following are some Dos and Don’ts of beating the virus.
COVID Situation Will Only Worsen With The Passage Of Time:
According to the last update by World Health Organization, there are 9Million active cases of COVID-19, with the 50,000 casualties around the world. Since the Spanish flue, COVID-19 has been the most widespread catastrophe humanity has encountered. Fortunately, Since June 2020, more and more people are recovering defeating the virus.
Get A PCR Done—Avoiding The COVID Detection Test Is Not Helpful:
A recovery is only possible if you identify and track the virus within your system timely. Avoiding a PCR is not helpful in anyway. Getting the COVID-19 detection test helps you determine the path you are going to adapt to recover. A sample of the mucous will be collected from your mouth or nasal tract and the swab will be tested for the virus. Most countries have developed fast testing as well and you can have the report in few hours.
Going To A Hospital Is Not Necessary—You Can Treat Yourself At Home:
Do not overwhelm the healthcare facilities unless you’re in a serious need of medical attention. Billions of patients have recovered without going to any hospital or admitting themselves to any medical facility. For most of the patients, it was like any other flue. Try to isolate yourself in the comfort of your home; it will heal you faster. However, if you are facing breathing problems, it is best to consult the COVID camp in your area.
Eat A Wholesome Diet—You Need All The Macro And Micro Nutrients:
Eat healthy no matter what. Gone are the days when you could afford to be ignorant towards the importance of a healthy body and a stronger immune system. Since it has spread to 216 countries, it will get to you no matter where you are even if it isn’t there in your part of the world yet. You should eat various types of fresh and unprocessed food daily to get the minerals. If you are not getting all the nutrition from the food, start taking multivitamins, zinc, calcium, iron and other essential micronutrients artificially.
- Include dietary fibre in your daily meal plans—you can opt supplemental fibre if it is tough to buy natural produce for now.
- Induce high protein food in your system—best way is to get it through natural food. However, protein powders work equally fine.
- Provide your body the antioxidants it needs. Since there is strict lockdown in most countries of the world, you can order antioxidants in the form of drugs as well.
- Keep yourself hydrated. So many patients who have recovered from the virus advocated the use of hot liquids such as, honey and lemon tea, poultry soup, broth, ginger tea, fresh fruit juices, coffee and others.
- Eat fresh fruits and vegetables. Whatever is available over the counter and is affordable.
- Eat Nuts and whole grains (e.g. oats, unprocessed maize, wheat, starchy tubers or brown rice roots such as yam, potato, cassava or taro)
- Snack healthy; you can choose raw vegetables and fresh fruit rather than foods that are high in fat, sugar, or salt.
Rest—sleep depravity does not aid healing:
Sleep for 8-10 hours a day; putting your body to rest is one way to make it strong. Over working your capabilities will only tire your immune system. While you sleep, your body goes in the repair mode and heals what’s broken or damaged. Also, with COVID even if you are isolated will make you sweat, you’ll be fatigued and the muscles will soar. Hard physical exercise can give rise to your body temperature as well.
Adapt to breathing exercises—your lungs must get enough oxygen:
Take a deep breath in, hold it for 5 seconds and release. Repeat that five times. On the 6th time, cough hard. This will help the oxygen to reach in the lungs. Repeat the cycle two times. Sit in a comfortable position and place your left index finger on the right nostril and inhale as much of oxygen as you can. Now repeat the same process by putting your right index finger on the left nostril. Breathing this way will make your lungs store more and more oxygen for a longer period of time.
Do not panic or lose hope—you can come out of it just fine:
You can beat it, it is dangerous but it is not deadly for everyone. Keep a positive attitude; it is essential for overcoming this this infection. People of all ages have fought it. China has many examples of people over the age of 60 fighting it and beating it. The eldest recovered patient in Pakistan is 98 years old Lahore resident who have won the battle against the virus.
The virus damages your system—keep a check on your over-all health:
Some patients show mild symptoms in the beginning of the illness but, when their first test comes negative, they suddenly fall sick succumbing to weakness or organ failure. Chronic fever is a common symptom experienced by almost every patient which had the virus. This is both infuriating and exhausting. The constant fever drains you out of every ounce of energy and damages your immune system. It’s a must to take as much rest as possible so that your body can heal and fight the virus at the same time.
